Electric kettle blackout — Wh honesty (NZ jug)
A jug often works on mid stations for one boil — continuous watts first, short Wh cost second. Vs espresso / drip.
NZ jug note — when mid stations work
- NZ / AU jugs are usually 2,200–2,400 W at 230 V — hotter continuous demand than many US 1,500 W kettles. Confirm your nameplate; QuietWatt tables use both bands.
- Often works on mid stations when continuous AC ≥ jug watts (or a travel jug ≤1,500 W). One boil is ~2–4 minutes — Wh is usually ~50–150.
- Vs espresso: kettle is a short resistive burst; boilers can run longer / need cleaner sine — see espresso honesty.
- Vs drip: drip runs heat longer for a full pot; kettle + pour-over is often the cleaner battery coffee path — see drip coffee.
- Travel / 0.5–1 L jugs at 600–1,000 W are the dorm / van friendly option.

Comparison: kettle-duty honesty
Filter by NZ jug vs travel jug reality.
| Model | Wh · continuous AC | NZ jug honesty | Vs espresso / drip | Approx. USD |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus Travel | 286 Wh · 600 W (X-Boost 1,200 W) | NZ 2.4 kW jug loses. Travel jug maybe with X-Boost caveats. | Pour-over path; espresso still harder. | ~$180–300 |
| Anker SOLIX C300 | 288 Wh · 300 W | Loses to jugs. | Cold brew / thermos only. | ~$200–280 |
| Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 1.5 kW jug | 1,070 Wh · 1,500 W | US/travel 1.5 kW often works; NZ 2.4 kW usually loses. | One boil + pour-over beats drip keep-warm. | ~$499–589 |
| BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 | 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W | Mid win for ≤1.8 kW jugs; NZ 2.4 kW still thin. | Often easier than espresso boilers. | ~$380–500 |
| Anker SOLIX C1000 Expand | 1,056 Wh → 2,112 Wh · 1,800 W | Same continuous gate; expand for more boils. | Stack with drip only if W budget allows. | ~$400–600 |
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus | 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W class | Strong mid jug path; verify NZ SKU continuous vs 2.4 kW. | Tea/coffee boil is the honest kitchen win. | ~$600–900+ |
| BLUETTI AC200L Best NZ chance | 2,048 Wh · 2,400 W class | Best continuous in this set for a full NZ jug boil — still one/few boils per charge. | Wh left for rice cooker / Instant Pot cousins. | ~$800–1,100 |
