Food dehydrator — blackout Wh honesty

Multi-hour continuous fan + heat — trays dry for 4–12+ hours at a steady draw. Mid stations may struggle for full runs; expand packs help if you must finish. Vs oven-less drying · bread maker · sous-vide · expandable / multi-day.

Multi-hour fan+heat — mid may struggle

  • Continuous duty, not a burst. Countertop dehydrators commonly nameplate ~200–1,000 W with fan + heater cycling. Average often lands in the low hundreds of watts for many hours — Wh is the gate.
  • Mid may struggle for full runs. A ~1 kWh box might clear continuous W for a short fruit batch but empty mid-jerky on an 8–12 h program (estimates). Don’t start a marathon dry with 30% pack left.
  • Oven-less drying vs expandable: a full kitchen oven is usually impractical on mid stations. If you need multi-tray marathon drying, prefer expandable / multi-day Wh — or skip and dry after grid returns.
  • Vs bread maker: timed heat programs with phases — bread maker. Dehydrators are steadier continuous fan+heat rather than knead/bake spikes.
  • Vs sous-vide: both are hours-long heat holds; circulators often spike harder on heat-up — sous-vide. Reheat cousin: microwave (minutes, not a dry cycle).
  • Apartment blackouts: heat + fan noise in a closed flat — see apartment blackouts. Prefer fridge/lights over finishing jerky on one inverter.

Dry-run Wh estimates

Hours ≈ (rated Wh × 0.85) ÷ average dehydrator watts (fan + heater duty).

~250–500 W avg

Mid may struggle

1 kWh ≈ ~1.5–3 h usable; 8–12 h jerky needs expand or skip (est.)

Short fruit batch

Possible

2–4 h light trays may fit mid if continuous clears and pack starts full

Filter by short-batch fit vs full-run Wh struggle.

Model Wh · continuous AC Est. short vs full dry Dehydrator honesty Approx. USD
EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus Lose 286 Wh · 600 W May clear light units briefly; Wh empties fast. Skip marathon drying — fridge/lights first. ~$180–300
Anker SOLIX C300 288 Wh · 300 W 300 W continuous often loses hotter trays. Same thin continuous story as light heat appliances. ~$200–280
Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Short 1,070 Wh · 1,500 W ~1.5–3 h at ~300–500 W avg (est.) Mid may struggle for full runs — short fruit batches only if Wh budgeted. ~$499–589
BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W ~1.5–3 h class (est.) Better continuous headroom; Wh still gates 8–12 h jerky. ~$380–500
Anker SOLIX C1000 Expand 1,056 Wh → 2,112 Wh · 1,800 W ~2× with expand (est.) Expand helps full runs — see multi-day; still not above fridge priority. ~$400–600
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W class ~1.5–3 h solo · expand Same mid Wh math; expand/solar for longer dry cycles. ~$600–900+
BLUETTI AC200L Fuller run 2,048 Wh · 2,400 W class ~3–6 h class at mid avg (est.) Best Wh in this set for a longer dry — still often better to wait for grid. ~$800–1,100
