Yogurt maker / Instant Pot yogurt mode — blackout Wh honesty
Long low-heat incubate — dedicated yogurt makers and Instant Pot yogurt mode hold ~40–45 °C for hours. Often fine on mid stations if Wh is budgeted. Vs sous-vide · Instant Pot pressure cook · slow cooker.
Long low-heat incubate — often fine on mid
- Low average watts. Dedicated yogurt makers commonly average ~15–40 W once at incubate temp; Instant Pot yogurt mode is similar low-heat hold (not the 1,000 W pressure heat-up). Wall-clock is often 6–12 hours — Wh gates more than continuous W.
- Mid stations often fine. A ~1 kWh / 1,000–1,800 W class box can usually clear continuous W and finish one incubate if you start full (estimates). Thin ~300 Wh packs may finish a short culture but starve a 12 h set.
- Vs sous-vide: immersion circulators heat-up hard then hold hundreds of watts — see sous-vide honesty. Yogurt incubate is gentler peak and usually lower average.
- Vs Instant Pot pressure cook: yogurt mode is not sauté/pressure — don’t size the station for 1,000 W heat-up if you only incubate. Full pressure cook honesty: Instant Pot.
- Vs slow cooker: crockpots often average ~100–250 W for meals — still mid-friendly, but usually hungrier than yogurt incubate — slow cooker.
- Fridge after set: culture then chill — protect the fridge first on multi-hour outages: fridge runtime. Apartment readers: apartment blackouts.
