Drip coffee maker — blackout Wh honesty

When mid stations work for a drip pot — vs espresso / kettle heating spikes, and when pour-over still wins.

Vs espresso / kettle — when mid stations work

  • Drip makers often nameplate 900–1,500 W while brewing, then idle on a warmer (~50–100 W). The brew window is the continuous-W gate.
  • Vs kettle: similar peak heat, but drip runs longer (4–10 min). Vs espresso: drip is usually steadier than boiler machines — see espresso honesty.
  • Mid stations work when continuous AC clears the brew rating — one pot is often ~100–200 Wh, so Wh is secondary.
  • Keep-warm plates quietly drain Wh after the pot finishes — kill warm mode on battery.
  • Pour-over / AeroPress / cold brew still beat drip when continuous W is thin.

Brew Wh estimates

Brew ~1,200 W × 6 min

~120 Wh

One pot is cheap Wh if continuous clears (estimates)

Keep-warm ~80 W

Skip on battery

1 h warm ≈ ~80 Wh wasted — pour and unplug

Single-serve / pod

Often easier

Shorter heat bursts — still verify label watts
