Electric fence energizer backup (rural NZ overnight Wh)

Keep a mains energizer ticking through a line fault or storm night — labelled Wh math, surge notes, and when a mid-size station is thin for big multi-joule units. Not farm advice: follow the energizer maker and local fencing rules.

When a station is thin

  • Many small/medium energizers sip watts. Compact mains units often average well under 50 W — overnight is easy on ~300 Wh if the label agrees.
  • Large joule / long-fence units can draw more continuous power and hate dirty earths (higher effective load). Measure wall watts under your fence condition.
  • Surge is usually mild vs well pumps — but cheap modified-sine bricks and some switch-mode PSUs still prefer pure sine.
  • 12 V / battery energizers may already have a farm battery — don’t double-convert through AC unless that’s the designed path.
  • Solar energizers are often the better permanent rural answer; a portable station is a storm bridge, not a paddock architecture.

Overnight Wh estimates

Hours ≈ (rated Wh × 0.85) ÷ energizer average watts.

Compact energizer ~15 W

~16–115 h

286 Wh ≈ 16 h · 1,024 Wh ≈ 58 h (estimates) — easy overnight

Mid unit ~40 W

~6–43 h

286 Wh ≈ 6 h · 1,024 Wh ≈ 21 h (estimates)

Hungry / long fence ~100 W+

Thin on minis

1 kWh ≈ ~8–9 h — size up or shorten outage plan; verify label

Comparison: energizer backup stations

Filter by fence load. Prefer pure sine; keep the station dry and elevated.

Model Wh · AC Est. @ 15–40 W Fence honesty Approx. USD
EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus Shed shelf 286 Wh · 600 W ~6–16 h (est.) Strip / lifestyle block overnight if draw is low; thin for big mains energizers. ~$180–300
Anker SOLIX C300 288 Wh · 300 W ~6–16 h class (est.) Check continuous W vs energizer brick. ~$200–280
Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Quiet night 1,070 Wh · 1,500 W ~21–58 h class (est.) Comfortable mid-energizer overnight for many NZ lifestyle farms. ~$499–589
BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W ~21–58 h class (est.) Pure sine class; UPS helps if the brick hates flickers. ~$380–500
Anker SOLIX C1000 Expand 1,056 Wh → 2,112 Wh ~21–58 h · ~2× expanded Add pack when storms stack with stock water loads. ~$400–600
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W · solar path Overnight mid; expand / solar for multi-day Still thin vs huge commercial energizers without extras — measure first. ~$600–900+
BLUETTI AC200L Buffer 2,048 Wh · 2,400 W ~43–115 h @ 15–40 W (est.) Best Wh in this set for hungry units; dedicated 12 V farm battery may still be cleaner. ~$800–1,100
