LED desk lamp / task light — blackout Wh honesty
Easiest room lighting win — a few watts of LED task light beats space heater and window AC budgets by orders of magnitude. Craft / WFH kits stack with sewing machine and laptop.
LED task light — the Wh gift that keeps giving
- Modern LED desk lamps are tiny loads. Many pull ~5–15 W; USB / USB‑C lamps can run straight from station DC and skip inverter losses. A mid ~1 kWh pack can light a desk for days (estimates).
- Vs space heater: heaters are 1,000–1,500 W class continuous heat — they lose on portable Wh. See space heater honesty. Light first; heat last (or not).
- Vs window / portable AC: cooling surge + continuous draw usually crush mid stations — window AC · fan-first heatwave path: heatwave fan vs AC.
- Craft / WFH kit: lamp + sewing / serger + laptop PD is a coherent outage desk. Apartments: apartment blackouts. Storm bag: storm / blackout kit.
- Prefer LED / USB. Old halogen / incandescent task lamps burn Wh for the same lumens. If the lamp only has a wall brick, AC works but USB‑C / 12 V DC is cleaner when available.

Task-light Wh estimates
Hours ≈ (rated Wh × 0.85) ÷ lamp watts · USB/DC path often better than AC brick ÷ 0.85 again.
