Cooling honesty · Week 2

EcoFlow WAVE 2 vs portable AC on a power station — feature-class honesty

Two cooling paths shoppers confuse: EcoFlow WAVE 2 (WAVE-class appliance + optional add-on / DELTA pairing) built around portable power, versus a generic portable or window AC plugged into whatever station you already own. QuietWatt’s honesty layer: cooling is a continuous Wh burn rate — not a one-time surge. Feature-class honesty, not a winner crown. Rated cooling input, BTU, station Wh / continuous W / surge / prices: check listing / label. Not medical or heat-risk advice.

Honesty first (read this)

  • No invented Wh, watts, BTU, or street prices. QuietWatt will not invent WAVE 2 cooling input watts or “Eco Mode hours.” Read rated cooling input on the WAVE label; read continuous W / surge / Wh on the station card. Sibling method: Wave vs station · window path: window AC + station.
  • Feature-class, not scoreboard. WAVE 2 wins when you want a purpose-built portable AC with documented station / add-on pairing and camping / tent ducting honesty. A generic portable / window unit can win when you already own the AC, have a window / sleeve plan, and your station clears LRA + continuous on the AC label.
  • A station alone is not cooling. Extra Wh only extend runtime of the appliance you plug in — fans and shade are still ambient if there is no compressor. Heatwave sibling: heatwave fan / AC.
  • Heat / medical risk is out of scope. Extreme heat, mold, and medical vulnerability need clinician / building guidance — QuietWatt sizes Wh and continuous W only. This page is not medical advice.

Framing below is planning honesty from manufacturer product-page patterns and QuietWatt sibling citations (checked Oct 2026) — not QuietWatt lab tests or electrical / emergency-planning / medical advice. Estimates labelled.

Six axes that actually differ

  • Wh draw honesty (burn rate). Method QuietWatt reuses: rated cooling input watts × hours ÷ inverter factor (~0.85 planning estimate when using station AC) → Wh floor. DC add-on / WAVE battery paths skip inverter loss but still need matching ports — confirm on WAVE + station labels. Sibling: Wave vs station · size: what size.
  • When WAVE 2 wins. Camping / van / no-window installs, EcoFlow ecosystem pairing (add-on battery or DELTA-class continuous W), and buyers who want OEM-documented portable-power cooling rather than a random window box. Pairing context: DELTA 2 vs Max · camping: best camping.
  • When window / generic portable AC + station wins. You already own the AC, have a legal window / sleeve exhaust path, and the station’s published continuous W + surge clear the AC label (including locked-rotor / start). Deep dive: window AC + station · blackout framing: window AC blackout.
  • Compressor start vs continuous. Window and many portable ACs draw a short LRA / start surge well above running watts — peak marketing does not replace continuous cooling watts. WAVE-class still burns continuous W — check WAVE label, not brochure Eco Mode alone. Surge honesty: peak vs continuous.
  • Whole-home / heat-pump circuits are a different job. Mini-split / heat-pump outage math and transfer-switch floors are not WAVE 2 vs portable-AC territory — heat pump outage · home backup vs portable.
  • Multi-day heat refill. Continuous cooling empties mid packs fast. Solar, vehicle charge, or outdoor quiet / dual-fuel gen may enter the plan — never fuel gens indoors / in tents. quiet gen vs station · dual-fuel vs battery · cold weather (storage / chemistry honesty).

Axis WAVE 2 (+ station / add-on) Generic portable / window AC + station
What you buy Purpose-built portable AC (WAVE-class) with OEM pairing language for add-on batteries / DELTA-class stations — confirm SKU includes battery or not Room / window / “portable” AC you already own or buy separately + any mid/large station that clears the AC label
Wh draw Continuous cooling input on WAVE label × hours ÷ inverter factor if on station AC — QuietWatt will not invent watts; check label Same burn-rate method from your AC nameplate running watts — often denser continuous draw than WAVE camping marketing implies; check label
Start / surge gate Confirm continuous W + any surge language on the paired station / add-on against WAVE input — peak ≠ continuous LRA / compressor start is often the hard gate — station surge must clear start or the inverter faults: window AC station
Install / exhaust Camping / tent / van duct kits per OEM — still needs exhaust honesty Window sleeve / sash kit / hose routing; lease and building rules may ban window units — not lease advice
When it wins No window, EcoFlow pairing, camping / heatwave tent sleep plans Existing AC + verified station continuous/surge, apartment window already fitted
When it fails Undersized station continuous W, multi-day heat without refill, treating Eco Mode hours as Wh math Ignoring LRA, stacking fridge + AC on one inverter, overnight cool on ~1 kWh class alone

When WAVE 2 wins · when window AC + station wins · when neither is enough

WAVE 2 wins

Camping / no-window

Tent / van / balcony without a legal window sleeve, EcoFlow add-on or DELTA pairing, OEM duct kits. Start: Wave vs station · best camping · DELTA 2 vs Max.

Window / portable AC + station wins

Existing AC + verified surge

You already own the unit, window path is legal, and continuous W + LRA clear on both labels. Guide: window AC + station · window AC blackout · peak vs continuous.

Neither is enough

Whole-home / multi-day heat

Heat-pump / mini-split circuits, transfer-switch floors, multi-day heat without outdoor gen or solar refill. heat pump outage · home vs portable · quiet gen.

Cross-link: Wave vs station · window AC + station · heat pump outage · DELTA 2 vs Max · heatwave fan / AC · what size · best apartment · carry / Wh·kg. Estimates / manufacturer claims only — check listing / label. Heat / resistive loads and transfer-switch jobs need electrician / generator honesty — see peak vs continuous · space heater · transfer switch · quiet gen vs station · dual-fuel vs battery · cold weather · home vs portable (surge / LRA / start / continuous / whole-home rarely on a portable alone).
