Carry handle weight — Wh per kg, stairs, solo camping

QuietWatt already ranks net kg on stairs / lightest. This page is the real-world carry framework: how to use Wh per kg as a planning ratio (not a lab score), when a folding handle beats wheels, how expand packs and extra batteries change the choice, and solo / women camping honesty. No invented kg — check the listing.

Wh per kg — useful ratio, not a trophy

  • Formula (planning only). Rough Wh/kg ≈ nameplate Wh ÷ manufacturer net kg. Example shape only: 1,070 Wh ÷ ~10.8 kg ≈ ~99 Wh/kg on some Jackery 1000 v2 cites — always recompute from the SKU page. Not a lab efficiency score.
  • Higher Wh/kg ≠ easier stairs. A dense ~1 kWh brick can still be ~11 kg; ultralight ~250 Wh boxes win walk-ups but lose fridge nights. Job first, ratio second.
  • Net weight ≠ bag + cables + solar. Maker net kg usually excludes the carry bag, AC cable, and panels. Field carry can add several kg — check what’s in the box.
  • Expand packs multiply carry. Base unit may be stairs-OK; add-on battery often is not. Expandable vs single honesty: expandable vs single.

Specs elsewhere on QuietWatt come from manufacturer pages (checked Oct 2026). Figures here are estimates / planning ratios — check current listing. Not medical, fitness, or workplace lifting advice.

Real-world carry axes

Handle vs wheels

Stairs vs flat

Folding / top handles win walk-ups, tent pitches, and car-boot lifts. Wheels help pavement and festival lots — they do not climb stairs. Stairs shortlist: stairs / lightest.

Solo / women camping

One-trip rule

If you cannot comfortably lift the station from car to pitch in one trip, size down or leave expand packs at home. Camping path: best camping · festival.

Apartment room-to-room

Under ~5 kg class

Kitchen ↔ bedroom moves favour RIVER / C300-class cites — still verify kg on the listing. Apartment path: apartment station · noise: fan noise.

When carry changes the choice

Scenario Carry reality Buyer move QuietWatt path
Three-flight walk-upStairs “Portable” 15+ kg boxes become floor appliances. Ultralight AC (~under 5 kg class on many RIVER/C300 cites) wins repeated climbs. Prioritize net kg + handle over Wh/kg trophy. Leave expand packs downstairs if you must. Stairs / lightest
Solo car-to-pitchCamp ~1 kWh fixed kits around the lightest maker cites (~10–11 kg class on some Explorer 1000 v2 pages) beat wheeled expand hubs you will not carry twice. One comfortable lift rule. Solar panels are a second trip — plan straps/bags. Camping station · Jackery vs EcoFlow
Wheeled expand hub Great for driveway → patio flat roll; terrible for stairs and soft sand. Extra battery packs double the carry problem. Buy expand only if the base lives on one floor / van floor. Modular honesty first. Expandable vs single · Van station
Elevator building / condo Weight ceiling relaxes; noise and no-fumes rules dominate. Still avoid 20+ kg if you move rooms often. Optimize quiet + lease rules; use kg shortlist only for room moves. Balcony / no fumes · Fan noise
Motorcycle / bikepack / kayak Hard mass + volume limits. Compact Wh class beats “portable” marketing. Size to soft bags / dry bags; verify kg and dimensions on listing. Motorcycle camping · Boat / kayak

QuietWatt is independent. We do not invent weights here — recompute Wh/kg from the official net kg and Wh on the product URL. Ranked kg table: stairs-lightweight. Check current listing.

Decision framework

Day kit / walk-up

Ultralight AC

Phones, router, laptop, lights. Prefer under-~5 kg maker cites (RIVER 3 / C300 / RIVER 3 Plus class on many pages). Verify kg. Budget: under ~$500.

Overnight fridge / camp

Lightest ~1 kWh

Handle-first fixed kits often beat expand hubs for pitch carry. Sizing: what size · fridge: fridge runtime.

Van / driveway expand

Wheels OK

When the station lives in a van or garage and rolls on flat ground, Wh and expand matter more than stairs. Van path: van station · 12V car charging.
