Clothes iron / steam iron — blackout Wh honesty

High intermittent draw — continuous watts gate heat-up; Wh second for short presses. Mid stations often handle a quick press; a full laundry pile burns Wh fast. Vs hair dryer · clothes dryer (pressing vs drying).

High intermittent draw — short presses on mid

  • Nameplate is the heater, not the average. Steam / dry irons often list 1,000–1,800 W. Thermostats cycle — average is lower once hot, but continuous W still gates the first heat-up.
  • Short presses often win. A few shirts or a uniform on a mid 1.5–1.8 kW station is realistic; a basket of linens is not a Wh bargain.
  • Vs hair dryer: same heat-element class — brief duty can work; continuous salon use loses. See hair dryer honesty.
  • Vs clothes dryer: pressing is minutes of intermittent heat; tumble drying is continuous kW for hours — usually never on a portable station. See clothes dryer · wash first: washing machine.
  • Cousins: space heater is continuous room heat (usually lose); apartments: apartment blackouts. Travel / dry irons under ~1,000 W are kinder.

Specs from manufacturer pages (checked Oct 2026). Runtime figures are estimates.

Short-press estimates

Steam iron ~1,200–1,800 W

Brief on mid

Need continuous W ≥ nameplate; 1 kWh ≈ ~30–45 min heat-on time (estimates)

Travel / dry iron ~800–1,200 W

Usually mid OK

Short presses if label fits — Wh rarely the gate for a few items

Vs dryer / hair dryer

Press ≠ dry

Clothes dryer usually never; hair dryer same brief-heat shape

Model Wh · continuous / surge High intermittent draw Honesty Approx. USD
EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus Steam lose 286 Wh · 600 W (X-Boost 1,200 W) Full steam iron out of class; maybe tiny travel iron under continuous W. Wh tiny for pulses if it runs — continuous W is the gate. ~$180–300
Anker SOLIX C300 288 Wh · 300 W Irons almost always lose — same as a pocket heater fantasy. Skip; keep pack for lights / phone. ~$200–280
Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Brief 1,070 Wh · 1,500 W / 3,000 W surge Short presses often possible if iron ≤1,500 W continuous. A few shirts — not a laundry-day pile. Vs hair dryer. ~$499–589
BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W Better continuous headroom for steam heat-up. Still intermittent — don’t stack with a washer cycle. ~$380–500
Anker SOLIX C1000 Expand 1,056 Wh → 2,112 Wh · 1,800 W Extra Wh for a longer press session — continuous W unchanged. Expand packs better for fridge than for ironing. ~$400–600
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus Travel+ 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W / 3,600 W surge Strong path for steam spikes + short presses. Apartment-friendly — apartment blackouts. ~$600–900+
BLUETTI AC200L Best buffer 2,048 Wh · 2,400 W class Best W/Wh in this set for a longer brief press — still not a dryer’s cousin. Never confuse with clothes dryer duty. ~$800–1,100
