Washing machine blackout — surge honesty

A portable station usually loses to a washer — heat + drain/spin motors spike hard. What stations can actually do, and when a generator wins. Cross-link: induction · microwave · generator vs battery.

Usually loses — what stations can actually do

  • Heat + motor. Hot washes heat water (often 1,500–2,000 W+). Cold / quick cycles still spike on drain and spin.
  • Mid stations may fault mid-cycle even if idle Wh looked fine — surge at spin is the classic trap.
  • What they can actually do: sometimes a short cold rinse / spin on a big box if measured watts fit; never plan a family laundry day on a camping battery.
  • Front-loaders / inverter washers can be gentler — still measure; don’t assume.
  • Same honesty family as induction and microwave. Long appliance duty → generator vs battery.

Cycle Wh estimates

Hot wash heat ~1,500–2,000 W

Usually loses

Need high continuous W; Wh burns during heat fill (estimates)

Cold / quick ~200–500 W avg

Maybe big box

Spin surge still gates — test once; 1 kWh may cover one short cycle (est.)

Honest plan

Skip / gen / laundromat

Battery for lights + fridge; laundry after grid or on fuel

Comparison: washer-duty honesty

Filter by what stations can actually do.

Model Wh · continuous / surge What it can actually do Washer honesty Approx. USD
EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus Lose 286 Wh · 600 W (X-Boost 1,200 W) Washer out of class. Usually loses — lights/phone instead. ~$180–300
Anker SOLIX C300 288 Wh · 300 W Loses hard to heat + spin. Not a laundry plan. ~$200–280
Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Cold? 1,070 Wh · 1,500 W / 3,000 W surge Maybe a short cold/quick if surge fits — expect faults on spin. Usually loses hot washes. ~$499–589
BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W Better continuous — still not a laundry day. Test one cold cycle max; have a abort plan. ~$380–500
Anker SOLIX C1000 Expand 1,056 Wh → 2,112 Wh · 1,800 W Extra Wh helps finish a started cold cycle — not heat. Expansion ≠ heater clearance. ~$400–600
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W / 3,600 W surge Stronger surge path — still measure spin peaks. Best mid chance for one careful cold cycle; hot → gen. ~$600–900+
BLUETTI AC200L Best buffer 2,048 Wh · 2,400 W class Best W/Wh in this set for a short cold cycle experiment. Usually still loses hot / multi-load days — see gen vs battery. ~$800–1,100
