Vacuum cleaner blackout — Wh / surge honesty

Stick vac vs corded: when a portable station helps briefly, and when motor surge + Wh make a full clean unrealistic. Cousin motor loads: washing machine · sump pump.

Stick vac vs corded

  • Cordless stick vacs already have a pack — charging the dock from a station (often 50–100 W) is the honest blackout path, not reinventing suction on AC.
  • Corded uprights / canisters often draw 800–2,000 W with motor surge. Mid stations may start and still empty Wh in minutes.
  • Robot vacs usually sip watts on the dock — easy overnight Wh if the dock brick fits continuous W.
  • When battery helps briefly: one room / spill cleanup on a corded if continuous + surge clear; or top up a stick-vac pack for a short pass.
  • Full-house cleans belong on grid or a generator — see generator vs battery.

Specs from manufacturer pages (checked Oct 2026). Runtime figures are estimates.

Wh / surge estimates

Corded ~1,200 W

Brief only

1 kWh ≈ ~40 min if continuous clears (estimates) — one room, not the house

Stick-vac dock ~60 W

Battery helps

Charge the pack; use the vac’s own battery for suction

Robot dock ~20–40 W

Easy overnight

1 kWh covers multi-cycle dock time (estimates)

Model Wh · continuous / surge Vacuum honesty When battery helps briefly Approx. USD
EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus Corded lose 286 Wh · 600 W (X-Boost 1,200 W) Most corded vacs out of class. Stick-vac / robot dock charge only. ~$180–300
Anker SOLIX C300 Dock 288 Wh · 300 W Loses to corded motors. Honest win: charge stick / robot packs. ~$200–280
Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Brief? 1,070 Wh · 1,500 W / 3,000 W surge May run a mid corded briefly if surge + continuous fit — Wh burns fast. One spill / hallway pass; docks all day. ~$499–589
BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W Better continuous than minis — still a short clean, not deep spring cleaning. Brief corded + stick-vac charging. ~$380–500
Anker SOLIX C1000 Expand 1,056 Wh → 2,112 Wh · 1,800 W Extra Wh for longer dock cycles — not more motor amps. More brief passes if start succeeds. ~$400–600
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W / 3,600 W surge Stronger surge path for motor start — still minutes of corded suction per kWh. Test start once; prefer stick vac for outages. ~$600–900+
BLUETTI AC200L Best buffer 2,048 Wh · 2,400 W class Best W/Wh in this set for a longer brief clean — full house still unrealistic. Longer dock + a few corded rooms if label fits. ~$800–1,100
