Countertop ice maker — blackout Wh honesty
Compressor cycles — not a fridge night, not a freezer thaw clock. Often struggles on mid stations once you budget surge + Wh for a batch. Vs fridge runtime · freezer thaw hours.
Compressor-cycle honesty — mid stations often struggle
- Compressor + fan, not resistive heat. Countertop ice makers typically nameplate ~100–200 W while making ice, with a short surge when the compressor starts. Duty is cyclic while water freezes and harvests — Wh adds up faster than a phone charger, slower than a space heater.
- Often struggles on mid stations. A ~1 kWh / 1,000–1,800 W box can sometimes finish a small batch if continuous W clears (estimates), but multi-hour “keep making ice through the party” math usually loses. Thin ~300 Wh packs rarely clear surge + Wh together.
- Vs fridge-runtime: a kitchen fridge is the higher-priority cold job — size that first on fridge runtime. An ice maker is a luxury load; don’t steal Wh from food safety for cubes.
- Vs freezer-thaw-hours: a closed freezer holds cold for hours without power — see freezer thaw hours. Making new ice is the opposite problem: continuous compressor work, not passive thaw delay. Chest units: chest freezer runtime.
- Dorm / apartment / multi-day: dorm mini-fridges already compete for the same outlet — dorm mini-fridge. Multi-day storms need expand packs for fridge first — expandable multi-day. Not food-safety advice.

Comparison: ice-maker honesty
Filter by whether a station clears compressor surge and budgets Wh for a batch — mid stations often struggle.
| Model | Wh · continuous / surge | Ice-maker fit | Honesty | Approx. USD |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus Thin | 286 Wh · 600 W | May clear small makers; Wh is ~1–2 h at 120–180 W avg (est.). | Usually skip — prioritize fridge / phones instead. | ~$180–300 |
| Anker SOLIX C300 | 288 Wh · 300 W | Continuous W may trip larger makers; Wh soft-gates any batch. | Same thin story as a heavy dorm mini-fridge night. | ~$200–280 |
| Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Maybe batch | 1,070 Wh · 1,500 W | Best mid path for a short batch if surge clears (estimates). | Still often struggles for multi-hour keep-making — vs thaw hours passive cold. | ~$499–589 |
| BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 | 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W | Similar ~1 kWh batch math — surge headroom helps compressor starts. | Don’t stack with fridge compressor on one thin inverter. | ~$380–500 |
| Anker SOLIX C1000 Expand | 1,056 Wh → 2,112 Wh · 1,800 W | Expand packs help longer ice duty — fridge still first. | See expandable multi-day before party-scale ice. | ~$400–600 |
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus | 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W class | Solid mid continuous for many countertop makers (estimates). | Wh still soft-gates all-day ice — chest freezer: chest freezer. | ~$600–900+ |
| BLUETTI AC200L Best headroom | 2,048 Wh · 2,400 W class | Best Wh in this set for longer compressor ice duty. | Still a luxury vs fridge / med cold — not food-safety certification. | ~$800–1,100 |
