Electric lawn mower on a portable power station
Mowing the bach lawn with the power off, a back section the extension lead won’t reach, or a lifestyle-block paddock edge? A corded electric mower in NZ is a 1,200–1,800 W motor load on 230 V. A 1 kWh station can run the smaller ones for roughly half an hour to 45 minutes, and an 1,800 W hover mower needs a 2 kWh-class station. QuietWatt’s honest answer, using the ratings Bunnings NZ and the makers publish.
Step 1: what an NZ corded mower draws
These are the corded electric mowers Bunnings NZ lists (checked 1 Nov 2026). Watts are the rated motor figures on the listings, not QuietWatt measurements:
- Ozito ELM-1230: 1,200 W, 305 mm cut, 25 L catcher, 8.0 kg, $159 — Bunnings NZ listing and Ozito manual.
- Ozito 1,500 W 360 mm: 1,500 W, 360 mm cut, $229 — Bunnings NZ listing.
- Flymo SimpliGlide 360 hover mower: 1,800 W, 36 cm metal blade, $279.98 — Bunnings NZ listing.
Start-up surge: TBD. None of these listings publishes a motor start-up figure. The motor starts every time you pull the safety lever, so treat the rated watts as the minimum continuous rating you need and want surge headroom on top — see peak vs continuous watts.
Other brands: read the rating plate on your own mower. QuietWatt won’t guess watts. A watt meter on a mains socket while mowing your real grass beats any label.
Step 2: which station class can run which mower
Rule used here: station continuous AC watts must clear the mower’s rated watts, ideally with 10–25% headroom. Boost modes (X-Boost, SurgePad, Power Lifting) work by lowering voltage for heating loads — don’t rely on them for a mower motor.
| Station (official listing) | Wh | Continuous / surge | Ozito · 1,200 W | Ozito · 1,500 W | Flymo · 1,800 W |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus (AU) | 1,024 | 1,800 / 3,600 W | Yes (50% headroom) | Yes (20% headroom) | No — at the limit |
| BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 (AU) | 1,024 | 1,800 W (2,700 W Power Lifting) | Yes | Yes | No — at the limit |
| Anker SOLIX C1000 (AU) | 1,056 | 1,800 / 2,400 W | Yes | Yes | No — at the limit |
| Jackery Explorer 2000 Pro (NZ) | 2,160 | 2,200 / 4,400 W peak (230 V) | Yes | Yes | Yes (~22% headroom, off battery only) |
| Anker SOLIX C2000 Gen 2 | 2,048 | 2,400 / 3,000 W surge (4,000 W peak) | Yes | Yes | Yes (~33% headroom) |
Station specs from the linked official listings, as checked for our water blaster page (29 Oct 2026). Headroom is our arithmetic. The C2000 Gen 2 figures come from Anker’s US page and datasheet; Anker SOLIX NZ lists the C2000 Gen 2, so confirm the NZ spec there. The Jackery Explorer 1000 Pro on the NZ store has a 1,000 W inverter, so it can’t run any of these mowers. Check label / listing.
NZ pass-through catch: Jackery NZ’s FAQ for the Explorer 2000 Pro says max output drops to 1,800 W while it is charging from AC. So the 1,800 W Flymo runs off the battery, but don’t plug the station into the wall at the same time — see pass-through charging.
Step 3: how long you can mow (estimate)
Minutes ≈ (station Wh × ~0.85) ÷ mower watts × 60. The ~0.85 is a planning allowance for inverter losses, not a spec. It assumes the motor draws its full rated watts the whole time, which is the worst case; light, dry grass usually draws less, but the real figure is TBD per mower and lawn.
Worked examples (arithmetic only): Ozito 1,200 W on a 1,024 Wh station: 870 ÷ 1,200 ≈ about 43 minutes. Ozito 1,500 W on the same station: 870 ÷ 1,500 ≈ about 35 minutes. Flymo 1,800 W on the 2,160 Wh Explorer 2000 Pro: 1,836 ÷ 1,800 ≈ about 61 minutes; on the 2,048 Wh C2000 Gen 2, about 58 minutes.

The better plan off-grid: charge cordless mower batteries
A battery mower’s pack is small next to a power station. The RYOBI 18V ONE+ 33 cm mower 4Ah kit (Bunnings NZ) quotes up to 26 minutes of runtime on its 18V 4.0Ah battery, and RYOBI NZ’s mower comparison lists 18V and 36V models from 33 to 46 cm.
An 18V 4.0Ah pack is about 72 Wh (18 × 4, our arithmetic from the label figures). A 1 kWh station has roughly 870 Wh usable after the ~0.85 allowance, which is up to about 12 refills before charger losses. RYOBI doesn’t publish charger efficiency, so the real number is lower, but even half that is several more mows than running a corded mower directly. A charger is also a small, steady load, well inside every station’s limit.

Safety notes
- Keep the station on a dry, flat surface well away from the cutting path and thrown clippings; don’t mow wet grass (the Flymo manual says to avoid it).
- Use an outdoor-rated extension lead. Flymo’s manual gives a minimum of 1.0 mm² cable rated 10 A 250 V for its 220–240 V SimpliGlide range — SimpliGlide manual.
- Unplug the mower before clearing a blockage. A station that trips on overload will cut out mid-row; let it reset before trying again.
- Not electrical advice. Check label / listing.
Where to buy (affiliate placeholders)
Tracked affiliate links will replace these placeholders once QuietWatt is enrolled in each program. Until then, use the official product URLs above and confirm continuous W, surge W, pure sine, 230 V AC outlets and Wh on the live NZ/AU listing. Confirm your mower’s rated watts on its rating plate.
