Pass-through charging / UPS mode — honesty
Charge the station from the wall while AC outlets still power your loads — the marketing name for “UPS / EPS / pass-through.” Brand caveats, heat and cycle wear, and when it actually matters for WFH, CPAP, and fridge nights.
What pass-through actually is
- Job. Grid AC in → battery / BMS → inverter AC out, so a blackout or flicker can switch the load to battery without you unplugging everything. Related axes (transfer · Wh · expand · noise): UPS vs portable station.
- Not infinite power. Pass-through does not add Wh. When the grid dies, runtime is still (rated Wh × ~0.85) ÷ load watts — estimate. Fridge math: fridge runtime.
- “UPS mode” ≠ desk UPS. Many mid stations advertise <10–20 ms switchover. That protects towers and some CPAP bricks from flickers; it does not invent minutes of sealed-lead UPS signalling. Desk-specific: home office UPS.
- Brand manuals disagree. Some SKUs allow full AC-in + AC-out continuously; others limit charge rate, warn against long dual-use, or disable pass-through until a firmware / app setting is on. Always read the OEM sheet for your model — QuietWatt does not override manuals.

| Model | Wh | Pass-through / UPS honesty | Approx. USD |
|---|---|---|---|
| EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus Compact | 286 Wh expandable | UPS-mode class on many EcoFlow SKUs — great for router/laptop; weak for multi-hour fridge. | ~$180–300 |
| Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Quiet apt | 1,070 Wh | ~1 kWh sleep / desk class; confirm UPS / EPS wording for tower loads on your SKU. | ~$499–589 |
| BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 UPS-class | 1,024 Wh | Often sold with UPS-class switchover — still verify continuous AC-in + AC-out rules. | ~$380–500 |
| Anker SOLIX C1000 Expand | 1,056 Wh → 2,112 Wh | UPS <20 ms class (mfr) + expand pack — WFH / storm path without sealed Pb UPS swaps. | ~$400–600 |
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus Long / expand | 1,024 Wh → ~5 kWh | Strong wall-charge + expand story; UPS modes vary by SKU — read the sheet before leaving it on a fridge circuit 24/7. | ~$600–900+ |
| BLUETTI AC200L Longer | 2,048 Wh | Multi-night essentials floor unit — pass-through helps storm staging; heavy and warm under dual load (estimate). | ~$800–1,100 |
| Anker SOLIX C300 Grab-and-go | 288 Wh | Network / phone bridge — not a fridge or gaming-PC UPS replacement. | ~$200–280 |
