EcoFlow RIVER 3 vs RIVER 3 Plus — expandability / UPS ladder
Same RIVER 3 generation, two jobs: RIVER 3 (245 Wh · 300 W) is the grab-and-go box; RIVER 3 Plus (286 Wh · 600 W) doubles the inverter and adds stackable extra batteries up to 858 Wh. Feature-class honesty, not a winner crown. Prices: check current listing.
Honesty first (read this)
- Nameplates from EcoFlow listings (Oct 2026): RIVER 3 · 245 Wh LFP · 300 W AC (600 W surge / X-Boost) · ~3.5 kg (UPS SKU 3.55 kg). RIVER 3 Plus · 286 Wh LFP (3,000 cycles to 80%) · 600 W AC across 3 outlets (1,200 W surge / X-Boost) · 10.4 lb (~4.7 kg) · 9.2×9.1×5.8 in.
- X-Boost is not continuous inverter capacity for every load. It runs resistive loads (kettles, heaters) at reduced voltage — check appliance label.
- “858 Wh” needs extra batteries. EcoFlow lists RIVER 3 Plus with EB300 (286 Wh) or EB600 (572 Wh); 858 Wh is the stacked total, not the base unit. EcoFlow also sells a “RIVER 3 Max” bundle (Plus + Extra Battery 300) — check listing.
- No invented prices. EcoFlow runs frequent sales; check current listing.
- Other RIVER steps live elsewhere: RIVER 2 vs RIVER 3 · RIVER 2 Max vs RIVER 3 · RIVER 3 vs DELTA 2.

Axes that actually differ
- Output. 300 W vs 600 W continuous. Desktop PC + monitor, small coffee makers or a CPAP with heated humidifier can push past 300 W — check label. CPAP overnight · WFH outage.
- Wh. 245 vs 286 Wh base — only ~17% apart; the real Wh difference is expansion. RIVER 3 has no extra-battery port per EcoFlow listings; RIVER 3 Plus stacks to 858 Wh. Expandable vs single.
- UPS. EcoFlow lists RIVER 3 Plus at <10 ms switchover with PC/NAS data interface and two rear AC outlets for desk setups. RIVER 3 UPS behaviour varies by SKU (UPS edition exists) — check listing.
- Charging. RIVER 3 Plus: 380 W AC (0–100% ~60 min per EcoFlow), 220 W solar, 220 W car. RIVER 3: check listing for your region SKU’s solar / AC input.
- Weight. ~3.5 kg vs ~4.7 kg — the Plus is still one-hand, but the base RIVER 3 is the bag-and-hike box. Carry / Wh·kg.
