Microwave blackout — surge / Wh honesty

What portable stations can actually do with a microwave: continuous watts, magnetron draw, and short reheat windows — not fantasy “run the kitchen.” Cross-link: espresso / kettle · induction / hot plate.

What stations can actually do

  • Nameplate vs draw. A “1,000 W microwave” often pulls ~1,400–1,600 W from the wall. Size continuous AC above measured draw, not cooking watts alone.
  • Most mid stations lose or only manage a 30–90 second reheat before Wh or inverter limits bite.
  • Wh math is harsh. At 1,500 W input, 1 kWh ≈ ~30–35 minutes of microwave time — usually a few reheats, not meal prep.
  • Inverter microwaves can be slightly kinder on peaks — still measure; don’t assume.
  • Same family as kettles/espresso and induction: heating loads punish mid boxes.

Reheat Wh estimates

Minutes ≈ (rated Wh × 0.85 × 60) ÷ wall watts.

Compact ~700 W cook / ~1,100 W wall

Maybe short reheat

1 kWh ≈ ~45 min wall-time if continuous clears (estimates)

1,000 W cook / ~1,500 W wall

Most mid lose

Need ≥1,500 W continuous; few reheats per kWh (estimates)

Honest alternative

Stove / thermos

Or one careful reheat on a 2 kW-class station

Model Wh · continuous / surge What it can actually do Est. @ ~1,500 W wall Approx. USD
EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus Lose 286 Wh · 600 W (X-Boost 1,200 W) Microwave out of class. X-Boost ≠ free magnetron duty. N/A ~$180–300
Anker SOLIX C300 288 Wh · 300 W Loses hard. N/A ~$200–280
Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Compact? 1,070 Wh · 1,500 W / 3,000 W surge May start a compact microwave if wall draw ≤1,500 W — short reheats only. ~30 min class if it runs (est.) ~$499–589
BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W Better continuous than 1 kW minis — still a reheat tool, not a kitchen. ~30 min class (est.) ~$380–500
Anker SOLIX C1000 Expand 1,056 Wh → 2,112 Wh · 1,800 W More Wh for more reheats — continuous W still the gate. ~30 min · ~2× expanded (est.) ~$400–600
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus 1,024 Wh · 1,800 W / 3,600 W surge Stronger surge path; verify measured wall watts before claiming victory. ~30 min solo (est.) ~$600–900+
BLUETTI AC200L Best chance 2,048 Wh · 2,400 W class Best W/Wh in this set for a few honest reheats — still not unlimited microwave duty. ~60 min class (est.) ~$800–1,100
