Best portable power stations that can run a fridge
Food safety is the real outage job. A station must clear two hurdles: enough Wh for overnight (or multi-day) duty-cycle draw, and enough surge / continuous AC watts to start the compressor without tripping. This page ranks current models for fridge duty — not camping gadgets.
What “can run a fridge” actually means
- Running watts vs surge. A modern fridge often averages ~50–80 W while cycling, but the compressor can demand several hundred to 1,000+ W for a second or two at start. Continuous AC rating must cover running load; surge (or lifting / X-Boost / SurgePad) must clear the start spike.
- Wh buys hours, not horsepower. ~1,000 Wh is the overnight food-safety floor for many apartments. ~2,000 Wh is the multi-day / hot-weather buffer.
- Keep the door shut. Every open door resets the duty cycle. A closed fridge on battery lasts far longer than one feeding a hungry household during a blackout.
- Apartment-safe. Same rule as Night 1: no gas generators indoors. Prefer quiet LiFePO₄ stations if you have shared walls.
Rule of thumb: match surge headroom to your fridge’s locked-rotor / start rating if you have it on the nameplate. When in doubt, prefer ≥2,400 W surge and ≥1,000 Wh.
Comparison: fridge-duty models (Wh + surge)
Specs below are from manufacturer product pages (checked Oct 2026). Prices are approximate street / sale USD and change often — confirm on the linked official pages. Runtime columns are estimates (see math below).
| Model | Capacity (Wh) | AC continuous / surge | Fridge runtime notes (estimates) | Noise / apartment notes | Approx. price (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anker SOLIX C1000 Balanced | 1,056 Wh expandable to 2,112 Wh |
1,800 W continuous 2,400 W surge (SurgePad) |
~11–17 h at 50–80 W avg fridge draw. Surge is the tightest in this set — fine for many modern fridges; verify older / large compressors. | UPS <20 ms · ~28.4 lb · strong quiet-fan reviews | ~$400–600 |
| BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 Quiet | 1,024 Wh | 1,800 W continuous 2,700 W lifting (resistive loads) |
~11–17 h overnight class. Maker cites ~14.3 h for a 50 W portable fridge. Lifting mode is aimed at resistive loads — still check compressor start against 1,800 W continuous. | ~30 dB under light load · UPS ≤10 ms · ~25 lb | ~$380–500 |
| Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Surge headroom | 1,070 Wh | 1,500 W continuous 3,000 W surge peak |
~11–18 h at 50–80 W avg. Highest surge in the 1 kWh class — helpful for compressor start — but lowest continuous watts; avoid stacking other heavy AC loads with the fridge. | Fan ≤22 dB (maker) · UPS <20 ms · ~23.8 lb | ~$499–589 |
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus Expandable | 1,024 Wh expandable toward ~5 kWh |
1,800 W continuous 3,600 W surge · X-Boost up to 2,200 W |
~11–17 h overnight; EcoFlow markets fridge / household backup. Add an extra battery when storms run past one night. | <30 dB @ ~600 W · UPS <10 ms · ~27.6 lb | ~$600–900+ (sales vary) |
| BLUETTI AC200L Multi-day | 2,048 Wh expandable with B210 / B230 / B300 |
2,400 W continuous 3,600 W power lifting · 4,800 W surge (US product page) |
~22–35 h at 50–80 W avg — multi-day food safety without an extra battery. Strong continuous + surge for larger / older fridges. | ≤50 dB max (maker) · heavier (~62 lb) — floor spot, not a closet shelf | ~$800–1,100 |
| EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max | 2,048 Wh expandable to 6,144 Wh |
2,400 W continuous 4,800 W surge · X-Boost up to 3,400 W |
~22–35 h solo; EcoFlow cites up to ~14 h on a 120 W fridge example (conservative continuous draw). Best when you want fridge + other essentials for days. | ~30 dB light load (reported) · UPS ~20 ms · ~50 lb class | ~$1,000–1,600+ (sales vary) |
QuietWatt is independent. We do not sell these products. Specs and prices can change — always verify on the official product URL before buying. Surge / lifting / X-Boost modes have load-type limits; compressor motors are not the same as kettles.
Fridge runtime estimates (label: estimates)
Rough math: usable Wh ≈ rated Wh × 0.85 (inverter + idle losses). Divide by average fridge watts (duty cycle, not nameplate running watts alone). Real runtimes vary with ambient temperature, door opens, freezer section, and inverter efficiency.
Modern fridge (~50–80 W avg)
Mini / dorm fridge (~30–50 W avg)
Hot-weather / busy kitchen (~100–120 W avg)
These are estimates, not lab guarantees. If food safety is critical past one night, plan the 2 kWh class or an expandable pack. Do not run a gas generator indoors to “help” the fridge.
