External monitor / display — blackout Wh honesty
One good panel is modest Wh — dual-screen WFH with a laptop still beats a gaming PC + monitor stack. Desk ride-through: home office UPS. Evening TV path: TV / streaming.
Monitor watts — dual-screen math without the gaming tax
- Typical office monitors are kind. Many 24–27 in IPS panels idle ~15–40 W; brighter / larger / high-refresh gaming panels can hit 40–80 W+. Wh for a workday is usually easy on mid stations when the host is a laptop, not a desktop.
- WFH dual-screen = laptop + external. Size the laptop on PD first (laptop blackout), then add monitor watts. Stack ~65–120 W class with modem is still mid-friendly (estimates).
- Vs home-office UPS: a desk UPS is short ride-through + surge for PC/monitor/router; a station is Wh runtime. See home office UPS vs station.
- Vs gaming PC UPS: desktop + monitor can be 300–600 W+ continuous — gaming PC honesty. External display alone (or with laptop) is the lighter outage path.
- Vs TV / streaming: living-room TVs are often similar or higher Wh for evening use — TV + streaming. For WFH, prefer one efficient office panel over a big TV as a “monitor.”
